Re. the comments on smart metering, the government has threatened the energy suppliers with a windfall tax to counter the recent price rises and the perceived exhorbitant trading profits. The suppliers have said a windfall tax will prevent them investing in further green 'measures'? May I suggest that the governemnt does not levy a windfall tax on condition that the energy supply industry starts rolling out smart meters NOW, starting with the 'power poverty' users, then pensioners. We have the technology, but as usual, the government appears to lack the political will.
